![#EPLAUNCH | DEEP CALLS TO DEEP
At the start of the year, as you prayed, “Lord, take me deeper”, did you expect to be challenged in these ways? Some of us have experienced or are in the midst of crises and battles that have taken us by surprise.
But God is not surprised. In fact, He allows us to go through difficult times so He can take us deeper.
When we look at Psalm 42, we see a Psalm of lament written in a time of great difficulty and suffering. The psalmist passionately expressed his grief and sorrow to God with great honesty.
In the midst of his pain, he drew closer to God.
Through the depths of his sorrow, the psalmist experienced the depths of God’s comfort and strength. In the same way, our despair can reveal our great need for God.
In his lament, the psalmist remembered God’s faithfulness. We too must remember God’s faithfulness in hard times.
Are you on God’s curriculum of ‘Take Me Deeper’? Don’t be discouraged or paralysed in the battle!
When you feel overwhelmed, God is inviting you to the depths of His peace. When you experience loneliness, God is inviting you to sense His nearness in a new measure. When you go through things you don’t understand, it is an opportunity to grow in your trust and surrender to His timing and wisdom.
We need to recognise that God allows these turbulent times to bring us into new depths of Him. As we run to Him, we will be satisfied by Him. So let’s enter in!

Ephesians 6:16 (AMP)
Above all, lift up the [protective] shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
The Shield of Faith protects us from the fiery darts of the enemy, enabling us to stand firm against his strategies.
The enemy’s flaming arrows can come in the form of fear, doubt, discouragement, false accusation or anxiety.
Fear sounds like, “If I trust God, will He really meet all my needs?”
Doubt sounds like, “Is He really good, and does He really love me?”
Discouragement sounds like, “I will always fail, and God will not forgive me this time.”
The Bible describes Satan as the accuser of the brethren. He is constantly throwing false accusations at believers.
Revelations 12:10 (NIV)
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.”
To deploy the Shield of Faith is to put our complete trust in God.
When we choose to die to ourselves daily and entrust our lives completely to Him, we hold up the Shield of Faith, blocking the arrows and quenching the fire.
We strengthen our Shield of Faith when we hear and apply the gospel and Christ’s teachings.
Romans 10:17 (AMP)
So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ.
There are also times when we come under heavy enemy fire.
This is when we, as the body of Christ, take the Testudo formation and help each other stand firm.
We also grow our faith through prayer.
Prayer is incredibly important. Jesus sits at the right hand of God, always interceding on our behalf. This demonstrates the importance of prayer!
Have you got your Shield of Faith up?
We need to actively choose to put our complete trust in Him in this spiritual battle!

and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news].
With spikes for grip, a Roman soldier’s feet can remain firm and steady in the midst of battle.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐲.
It helps us not only stand our ground, but take enemy territory.
Satan’s territories were gained through deceit and trickery. These are not actual land or geographical boundaries, but the souls of man under bondage and slavery to sin.
Retaking territories means bringing the Good News to people who are still enslaved and bound by Satan.
Isaiah 52:7 (NIV)
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
The feet of the messengers are beautiful because of the value of the message they carried- hope for deliverance.
What Exactly is “Peace” in the Gospel of Peace?
The peace that comes from Christ’s righteousness is an armour which enables us to stand firm in the evil day.
The Good News brings peace to those who are bound in the enemy’s territory.
Unless we first put on the belt of truth and the breastplate of righteousness, we can become ineffective as bearers of the Good News.
Have you experienced the true peace that comes from God?

Do you have your armour on?
When we apply all of God’s precepts, we put on the full spiritual armour.
Put on the full armour of God [for His precepts are like the splendid armour of a heavily-armed soldier], so that you may be able to [successfully] stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil.
Ephesians 6:11 (AMP)
The Breastplate of Righteousness protects our spiritual heart.
What is the Heart from a Biblical Perspective?
The Bible teaches that the heart encompasses our inner being and God vacuum (spirit) as well as our thinking, choosing and emotions (soul).
True righteousness comes from Christ alone
We are all sinners and only made righteous in God’s sight because Christ imputed His righteousness to us.
He made Christ who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness].
2 Corinthians 5:21 (AMP)
Although we are now made righteous, we still need to choose to live life God’s way.
We are called to live a righteous life which expresses gratitude to God for our salvation.
The opposite of righteousness is iniquity. When we continue in repeated, entrenched patterns of sinful living, we walk around with a damaged armour and give the devil a chance to attack us.
To live in righteousness is not to be perfect but to a posture of humility and live in repentance like David.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right and steadfast spirit within me.
